Are you talking the Sound Control in the task bar?





You may actually want to try reinstalling it from your WinXP CD.

Try going back a month.
If you have still got the original installation disc, run that, but select the ''repair'' option, that way all of the stuff you have on your HDD will be safe, just any problems with the windows settings will be rectified.





Hope that helps.
ur OS files may b corrupted repaire them using ur OS disc...





or it could b a virus/spyware
